Character Analysis: GT Trunks

 Background

The son of Vegeta in the main Dragon Ball timeline. He aids the Z fighters during the events of the Buu saga by fusing with the character Goten to form the formidable fighter Gotenks. Later on in GT he becomes the president of Bulma’s capsule corp corporation and helps Goku/Pan search for the black star Dragon Balls across the universe.  Unlike “future Trunks” Kid/GT Trunks is notably more bratty and selfish due to his more lax upbringing.



Abilities and arsenal

Brave sword

A double edged sword Trunks uses in many of his appearances. It was the sword originally used by the legendary Hero Tapion.


Ki

A form of metaphysical life energy that exists within all living things. Humanoids and other sapient creatures can harness it to increase their physical strength and durability. As well as channel it for various energy attacks. A large enough outburst of ki can affect the environment, manipulating clouds and causing earthquakes.

It’s mentioned Ki control is needed to increase physical power


Flight

The ability to manipulate ki to fly or lift oneself into the air. The technique was initially introduced into the series by the crane hermit students Tien and Chaitsu. 


Ki blasts

The ability to create small explosive bullets of Ki as a projectile attack. 


Ki Sense

The ability to sense the life essence and aura of other living beings.


Big tree cannon

A scaled down version of Vegeta’s “final flash” energy beam.


Kamehameha

A powerful Ki attack invented by master Roshi over a period of 50 years. It’s an energy beam released from the user's palms that has significantly more power behind it than an average kick, punch or Ki beam. 


Double buster

A double handed energy beam attack.



Misc

As Bulma’s son and head of capsule corp, Trunks also has some knowledge of machinery.


Fusion

The ability to fuse with another person, by manipulating Ki in tandem with a series of ballet-like poses. Both people involved in the fusion must have similar power levels and physical statues. The poses they make must also be perfectly symmetrical, or else the fusion will fail. The fusion lasts approximately 30 minutes before wearing off, though increased power usage can make that time limit drop considerably. Trunks typically fuses with Goten to form the character Gotenks.


Super saiyan

A legendary transformation of the Saiyan race that had been forgotten about for centuries until Goku rediscovered it. Official guide books state this form is a 50x power boost, though other multipliers higher and lower have been suggested by other media or Akira himself. Because this form has emotional turmoil as its trigger, the form tends to increase aggression. Trunks gained the form for…no real reason honestly.

Scaling

Trunks has fought soldiers stated to be as strong as Namek Saga Freeza and also fought an enhanced version of Broly(Bio-Broly) on relatively even ground. Hence he should scale above any of those feats.

  • Broly 00:15 Broly destroying most of a galaxy in the southern universe

  • Bardock 42:49 Freeza destroying planet Vegeta with the death ball Ki attack
