Note: Since heroes is so complicated. I included explanations on how its continuity works. Xeno Trunks is typically a version of Trunks whose experienced the events of Z, the Z movies and potentially Goku Black(in the Xenoverse series anyway).

Dragon Ball online is the first appearance of Xeno Trunks(then called time patrol Trunks), and other Xenoverse centric concepts like the Mira, Towa, Chronoa and the time patrol organization. While the game revolves around time travel, Dragon Ball online was conceptualized exclusively as being a sequel to the original 42 vol Dragon Ball manga. Because of that it does not treat GT, the Movies, super or anything outside that original manga as canon.

The Xenoverse series utilized the concepts created by Dragon Ball Online to create its own stand alone continuity based around the time patrol. Xenoverse 1,2 Fighter Z and Kakarot are all part of this continuity. Xenoverse considers the events of the original Dragon Ball Manga, Toei’s anime adaptations, Super, GT and the Z movies to all be valid alternative timelines within its continuity.

Dragon Ball Heroes Pre-Xenoverse
Dragon Ball Heroes was an electronic card game made in 2010. When it was originally conceptualized it didn’t have any of the “Xenoverse” characters or concepts.
The plot followed a kid named Beat(the Player stand in), who used the in-universe' Dragon Ball Heroes Arcade cabinets' ' to travel to various timelines in the Dragon Ball franchise. Beat would then help out the Dragon Ball cast using the cards from the game to summon facsimiles of Z fighters.
Beat’s in-game adventures were “roughly” shown in the form of promotional trailers. The arcade game would then contain story mode missions that roughly played out the events of said trailers . This original rendition of Heroes considered most alternative DB media to be valid timelines. However since the game was created before Dragon Ball Super, these timelines originally only included the 42 vol manga, Toie’s anime, the Z movies and GT.

Dragon Ball Heroes Post-Xenoverse
Around the time the original Xenoverse games came out, Dragon Ball Heroes had a major revamp in its storyline. Dragon Ball Heroes opted to create its own separate continuity/adaptation of the online/xenoverse concepts starting with “Jaaku Missions' . Adding Xeno Trunks and the time patrol into a new storyline that’s carried on until the present.
In this storyline revamp the player character Beat still regularly appeared as a side character in promotional trailers and as the player character in the arcade story mode, but he was largely excluded from later manga/anime adaptations of these stories.
Additionally “most” Dragon Ball Material eventually became “soft cannon” to the game. GT, Super, Z Movies, the Super Manga, most one shots, some misc video games, etc all count as valid timelines.

Dragon Ball Heroes Anime and Manga adaptations
The main Xenoverse inspired storyline was later adapted to Anime and Manga. As stated before in these adaptations the player character, Beat, was removed. Both the Anime and Manga adaptations followed the same storyline outlined in the arcade game, with some small differences between them(Similar to how Super has differences in its manga and anime).

Mission series
Finally we have the “mission” series. These are based around the “in universe” Dragon ball heroes card game played by the Player Stand in “Beat”( in other words the Mission series is essentially about the card game concept Heroes story was originally based around). All of the manga or games in the mission series are typically stand alone stories with inconsistent or tenuous connections to other ongoing Heroes storylines.

For fun
There are also a few other misc games/media that deal with the multiverse concept. They are all largely stand alone works. But some do occasionally get referenced in Heroes, so they’re worth looking over if you have extra time.
