Character Analysis : Saitama

Background

A former unemployed Japanese citizen living in a location called city Z. At the start of the series Saitama is directionless, but decides to become a “hero for fun” after saving a young boy from a crab monster called Crablante. For this goal he started an intense training regime of 100 sit ups, 100 push ups, 100 crunches and a 10 kilometer run every single day for 3 years(along with not using AC in the summer). At the end of his training Saitama’s body had become nearly invincible and capable of superhuman feats. Albeit his training worked almost too well because his immense strength allowed him to defeat almost any opponent in a single punch. Thereby removing any excitement or tension for his hero work.

Anyway, as the series progresses Saitama meets and takes on a disciple under the name of Genos. They then register themselves as official heroes under an organization called the hero association, and continue to act as public heroes under a ranking system.

S1Ep 2 11:41 Saitama meets Genos and takes him as disciple#background

  • S1Ep 4 20;00 Genos brings up the idea of Saitama joining the hero association#background

In terms of personality Saitama is normally alienated from other people and uninterested in most of the events going on around him due to overwhelming strength. That said as the series goes on his friend group seems to be growing and helping to fill the void left in his life by interesting fights.

Abilities

General superhuman abilities

Saitama has superhuman strength, speed, durability and perception.

Lack of a limiter?

https://onepunchman.fandom.com/wiki/Limiter

While the source of Saitama’s power has never been explained beyond it being due to his silly training regimine, the house of evolution scientist Dr.Genos has given a potential hypothesis. According to him most creatures on the planet, human or monster, have natural limitations to the level of power they can obtain. Something that he refers to as a limiter. Saitama supposedly “broke” his limiter through intense training and because of that he no longer has conventional physical limitations like other characters in the series..

Weaknesses

Saitama’s biggest weakness is his lack of formal fighting training and lack of actual technique. MANY characters have noted that he is not disciplined and that he typically just relies on overwhelming the opponent via sheer force.
