Character Analysis:Link

 Background

The repeatedly reborn hero of the land of Hyrule. Link’s first incarnation served the great kingdom of Hylia during a worldwide war against the evil demon king's demise. During this time he earned the respect of the goddess Hylia who decided to reincarnate Link’s spirit after he died to serve as her “chosen hero” against future threats to Hyrule and its people. This “hero’s spirit” was passed on to most Links seen throughout the series.

Link’s personality varies slightly from incarnation to incarnation, but he’s typically noted for his humbleness, courage, and kindness.

Armor

Hylian shield

This original rendition is supposedly indestructible, though weaker duplications have been used in its place in other games.

The blade of evil's bane and an important recurring object in the Zelda series. It was forged by the hero of the Skies by combining the goddess Hylia’s “goddess sword” and 3 sacred flames in Skyward Sword. The sword is infused with sacred energy and has the ability to counteract curses caused by dark magic. It can even repel evil beings and destroy magical barriers. Individual versions of Link sometimes have powered up or alternative versions of the sword. For example, the Hero of Twilight has a Master Sword powered up by sol orbs from the twilight realm. The hero of Legends also had his version reforged twice into the Golden Sword, which has 4x the power of the normal blade. It was shown in the Ataru ALTTP manga and occasionally in the games, that only Link or heroes chosen by the master sword can wield the blade.

Abilities

The ability to create beams of energy from the sword as a projectile attack. Link can perform this move in almost any Zelda game, though he normally must be at full health to do so(for some reason). However, in the minish cap he can also perform the move when at low health, called the peril beam.

Spin attack

The basic Zelda spin attack. In Ocarina Link also has a more powerful variant called the super spin attack, which is a magically powered infused spin move he learned from the great fairy of power in Hyrule and Termina. It can be combined with the spin attack to give said attack extra range. Link can also charge the Master Sword with power from a lightning strike this way.

Enhanced defense

Magically enhanced durability that halves damage taken by the opponent. Link was given the enhancement once by the great fairy of courage in Hyrule during OOT and again by the great fairy of courage in Termina during MM. Assuming both enhancements stack that comes to a total of taking 1/4th damage from enemy attacks

In this state he can hop on bodies of water, launch himself out of special flowers embedded in the ground, and hover in the air with helicopter-like flowers. He can also shoot powerful magic bubbles out of his mouth, drop deku seeds below him as an attack and perform a weaker variant of the spin attack. The form is vulnerable to fire-based attacks.

A mask that contains the deceased spirit of the Goron Darmanii. Wearing it turns Link into a Goron. While in the form Link gains enhanced strength he can use for powerful punches. He can also perform a powerful ground pound attack and can roll into a spiked ball sonic style (though the spikes require magic). The form has resistance to heat but sinks like a stone in large bodies of water.
