Long ago, the demon lord Trigon was sealed away for causing destruction. While the devil himself wasn’t capable of escape by himself, his followers sought to bring back who they worshipped. They would trick many, many women going through tough times to join their church of Satanism, using them as a summoner for Trigon. This would cause them all to fall for an illusion of the demon lord, seeing him as a handsome and kind man. This facade would result in every victim falling in love and bearing the child of Trigon. His plan for unsealment was to use his offspring as a way to reach Earth, allowing him to roam free once again. But all of these women wouldn’t allow themselves to kickstart the apocalypse. They would kill their children, and then soon after themselves, preventing Trigon from succeeding.
However, Trigon would eventually meet a woman from Gotham named Angela Roth. Like many before her, she was suffering from hardships to the point where she was indoctrinated into the church. After her unfortunate meeting with Trigon, the devil knew this time would be a success, as Angela was too weak to kill her own child. But this growing fear and despair caused her to want to die so badly that she resorted to drugs to end everything once and for all. However, Angela in her confusion grabbed the hand of a person coming through a mysterious light. Enveloped and warped away, Angela arrived in Azarath, a dimension that exists between all other dimensions. The people of this world were pacifists who taught the ways of controlling one’s emotions. Angela would then go by a new name: Arella.
Instead of killing Arella or her child, the goal was to teach the child of Trigon the ways of their society. However, the child’s birth would cause Azarath to tumble toward fear and destruction. Despite this, the child was not slain. This was Raven, and she was taught to control her emotions to prevent Trigon from taking a hold of her since she was young to not summon him. Trained by the Azarath’s priests and the living goddess Azar, Raven became a powerful empath. She hid her emotions and submerged them deep down within herself. Azar would die of old age when Raven was only 10-years-old.
At 18, Raven sensed the return of Trigon, but when the priests of Azarath ignored her, Raven took it upon herself to find a group of heroes on Earth to defeat her father. She first went to the Justice League, but she was untrustworthy to them due to the evil felt within her, so Raven decided to form her team to take down Trigon: the Teen Titans. This group of heroes would end up being able to seal away Trigon, but his influence would still affect Raven heavily. While defeated for now, Trigon could return at any moment should Raven lose control of her emotions, which has been a constant threat she and her friends have had to deal with. Raven would eventually fall under his influence, but she and her team were able to obliterate Trigon once again at the cost of her disappearing without a trace from her team.
However, Raven has returned on multiple occasions from dying due to the power she possesses being wanted by others, like Brother Blood or whenever Trigon returned. She’s found her place in the world as a hero who uses her powers to save others alongside a new family in the form of the Titans.
Note
All versions of Raven in the comics will be used because lol
Forms
Dark Raven
The form Raven takes when Trigon’s evil influence affects her to the point of taking on a form that unleashes her full destructive power.
Golden Raven
The form Raven’s soul takes after Trigon’s influence is eradicated, having been purified and freed.
Raven is still able to use her abilities as normal, meaning she can continue on fighting even after her physical body is destroyed.
Nexus of All Dimensions
Raven’s personal domain, located in an entirely separate dimension.
This allows her to summon emotions from all who live and take it all in at once, which also lets her pinpoint a specific person’s emotions to locate them.
The dimension itself is described as a universe of souls that she can control.
Equipment
Cloak
Raven’s cloak, worn by the denizens of Azarath, which she can manipulate to form:
She can also increase its size, grab and drag others with it, and summon it on her.
Chakra
The red gemstone on Raven’s forehead, which helps her control and bolster her powers, meaning she is weaker without it.
It’s also the tool that has the power to bring Trigon to Earth.
Ebon-Sword
Rings of Azar
Rings passed down through Azar’s family that were given to Raven before her death.
They contain Azar’s immortal soul, and were made to destroy Trigon and protect those around them from Trigon.
They are a link to Raven’s soul, which allows her soul along with Azar and all of Azarath’s souls to be channeled through her soulless body to achieve a powerful form capable of obliterating Trigon, utilizing “mental energy”.
Empath Powers
Raven was trained by Azar at a young age to control her emotions as an empath.
She feels the emotions of others herself when she deals with them.
Describes emotions as infinite and one thought can tell a lot about someone and their story, including their personality.

Raven can sense the emotions of others for various purposes.
These wide range of emotions include sickness, life, and death.
She can sense emotions from across dimensions, the universe, and the astral plane.
She can sense the presence of others, capable of locating them.
Can sense if someone is alive or not, as well as souls and the dead.
Other ways this sensing helps includes:
Understanding someone’s current level of strength, or the real extent of the damage they’ve taken.
Sensing various other things like power, viruses, energy, portals, illusions, and magic.
Emotion Manipulation
Raven is an empath who is capable of controlling all emotions.
She can use this type of manipulation to:
Make others like or fall in love with her, even capable of making many people worship her.
Calm those who are angered, panicked, or going berserk, and even give hope.
Drain emotions from others, and can do so to the point where they feel incapable of doing anything due to removing their drive.
Inflict emotional pain onto others, as well as transfer emotional pain from one target to another.
She can also straight up knock others out, even terrify them to the point where she could kill them.
Alter someone’s state of mind to feel more negatively about everything.
Control people’s bodies to the point where she can make them hurt themselves.
Construct images in one’s mind by playing off their emotions, even making others see abnormal things as if they’re actually normal.
Merge empathically with someone to see and feel from their perspective.
Control her emotions against opposing emotion manipulators, as well as removing possessors.
She is able to seek out specific emotions from a specific consciousness.
Raven can also astrally project into someone’s mind, as well as their memories.
Healing
Raven is capable of healing those even at the verge of death by taking the pain they feel and absorbing it into herself, and then allowing that pain to pass through her slowly and safely.
Raven has healed others from:
Cuts.
Raven can also slowly heal herself by absorbing positive emotions from others.
Energy Absorption
Raven can absorb the energy of others to weaken them and increase her own strength in return.
She is capable of performing this through contact or from far away.

Raven is able to speak to others through thought, doing so from long distances away.
Of course those she has possessed also can be telepathically spoken to.
This can allow her to learn new languages easily, even alien ones.
She can allow others to understand her situation empathically and know her location.
Raven can also implant false thoughts into others to make them think they want to do something or consider wrong information as fact.
She’s able to project images into others’ minds, which can be used for distractions.

Raven is capable of reading minds to understand others’ emotions and thoughts.
She can obtain someone’s knowledge or learn an opponent’s weaknesses through this.
Memory Manipulation
Raven is capable manipulating a person’s memories to:
Astral Projection (Ritual)
Soul-Self
Raven’s soul is what she considers Trigon and what she must control.
It specifically possesses a good and demonic half, which Raven can merge back together if they’re ever separated.
Mostly takes the shape of a bird, but can also take Raven’s appearance.
Many Azarathian souls including Azar exist inside of her Soul-Self.
Her soul inhabits the space separating Earth and the 11 afterlifes, being Heaven, Purgatory, and the nine layers of Hell.
Raven can project a Soul-Self that can act and exist independently from her body.
This also means her Soul-Self will remain even after her physical body is destroyed, and she can destroy a person’s soul and take over their body if she needs something to host her Soul-Self.
They can act separately even from interstellar distances away or when within nether-regions.
The Soul-Self can act on its own if it senses danger, as well as function if Raven is knocked out.
Passively protects Raven from all illnesses and possession.
The Soul-Self all around possesses the same powers as Raven.
It can become a physical force for uses such as protection, or just as a way to ram opponents with.
Other ways it can physically affect opponents or objects include striking, restraining, grabbing, and catching, as well as repelling and deflecting enemies and attacks.
The Soul-Self is capable of flight, and can travel deep underwater and into space.
Raven can telepathically speak through it, even mimicking other voices, as well as see from its perspective.
She can shroud herself within the Soul-Self, and its energy can defend against even hellfire.
Absorption
Raven’s Soul-Self possesses a pocket dimension of infinite darkness that she can force others into by absorbing them, or enter it herself.
Described as another dimension and an empty void, it is also considered a safe place where she cannot be hurt while she’s there.
She can frighten others inside the dimension with a mirage of her demonic self, as well as presumably other horrifying images.
It can even absorb the souls of others, and those who are inside risk having their soul dissipated unless Raven prevents this using “soul energy”.
Other things that Raven has absorbed into her Soul-Self besides people include:
Raven can also use this to transport others to locations she wants like Azarath, or even let others escape from virtual realities.
Dimensional Travel
Examples of reaching incredible distances include:
Regeneration

Depending on the damage, it may take the Soul-Self longer to regenerate.
Possession
Avatars
Magic & Other Powers/Abilities
Superhuman Physicality

While Raven is known for being an empath and using her Soul-Self and magic, she is still capable of throwing hands if need be.
Non-Physical Interaction
Flight
Energy Projection
Raven can project energy in various ways, such as:
Firing energy blasts, which can be launched all around her and burn enemies.
Scrying
Teleportation
Raven is capable of teleporting across dimensions quickly, with this stated to be instant, as well as being performed via “moving between dimensions”.
This is how she travels to and from Azarath and the Nexus of All Dimensions.
Useful for dodging attacks, or to get out of traps or grapples.
Her range of teleportation can reach the doorway to the afterlife.
She can wait between the dimensions and reappear whenever she likes.
She can also teleport numerous others at once, even by force.
Raven’s Soul-Self can utilize teleportation and warp others as well.

Shroud her own eyes to avoid illusions made by others, using her other enhanced senses to compensate.
Pyrokinesis
Electrokinesis
Cold Manipulation
Portal Creation
Raven is capable of forming portals within spacetime for her or others to travel to other locations.
Forcefield Creation
Summoning
Besides allies, Raven has also been shown summoning the following:
Ravens, like the birds.
Illusion Creation
Raven can create very realistic illusions of basically anything that are capable of tricking others.
These illusions can range from making someone view their loved ones dying to showcasing a target’s greatest fears.
Raven has shown various other types of illusions that can all be found here.
Raven uses a victim’s emotions to create a more effective illusion.
Her illusions feel real to all five senses, real enough that they were broadcasted on national television.
Her range with these illusions can affect a large number of people all at once and do so for a long period of time.
She can trap others within illusions in their minds and make them face off against their worst nightmare, eventually causing victims to have their souls destroyed.

Absorbing the souls of Azar and all other Azarathians is how she defeated Trigon.
Raven can also take souls that were already absorbed by others for herself.
Trigon was capable of stealing the souls of an entire universe one by one.
Matter Manipulation
Raven is capable of altering matter itself, with examples being:
Trigon has also shown notable matter manipulating capabilities, like:
Sealing
Tethering
Raven can tether other to herself and make them a part of her, though she has lost control of powerful beings and become corrupt as a result.
Empowerment
Power Nullification
Precognition
Raven has shown the power of precognition to see into the future and use this knowledge to her advantage, which is how she first sensed Trigon’s return, occurring months in advance.
This type of precognition is stated to just be one possibility that has the chance of happening, but her premonitions can still have some parts come true even if other parts are avoided.
She’s also capable of projecting these visions into others’ dreams.
Chronokinesis
Raven is capable of stopping time in an instant to have everything or specific things frozen in time.
Raven can even utilize her chronokinesis to help stabilize time.
Time Travel
She can utilize this trait for various time travel purposes, such as:
Sin Powers
Of the Seven Deadly Sins, Raven represents the original sin of Pride.
This set of powers has allowed her to make others be filled with greed, though using said powers can cause her to feel immensely sick for long periods of time.
Resistances
Mind Manipulation: Raven has resisted mind control on multiple occasions, even being able to break illusions. This also includes having her memories being wiped. This resistance has prevented powerful psionic threats like the H.I.V.E. Queen from affecting her for a time. This would of course include failing to manipulate her emotions like fear. And also her whole character is about resisting Trigon’s influence.
Soul Manipulation / Possession: Raven has blocked out opposing soul manipulation before, as well as many possession attempts. Also just being able to control her Soul-Self from Trigon’s influence shows her skill in preventing her soul from being manipulated.
Matter Manipulation: Raven’s Soul-Self was once able to enter the shell of a titan that was capable of absorbing the atoms of anything that it made contact with.
Power Nullification: Raven has resisted having her powers stolen from her. This is a passive resistance due to how she didn’t have her powers absorbed even while unconscious.
BFR / Sealing: Raven has prevented herself from being banished away before, and she has used her power to free others from magical binds, meaning she could most likely do the same for herself. Lastly, some of Raven’s abilities, like her teleporting across dimensions, would allow her to escape other dimensions and similar scenarios.
Time Manipulation: Raven’s mystical connections are able to protect her from things that slow down the perception of time to the point of it almost stopping.
Hellfire: Raven’s Soul-Self’s energy is able to withstand hellfire, and this by extension can aid in her protecting her physical body if she shrouds herself in her Soul-Self.
Feats
Strength & Attack Potency
Stronger than the Wyld, who matched Miss Martian in a telepathic battle while not at full power
Her Soul-Self created a shock wave capable of sending Supergirl flying
Telekinetically lifted up two destroyed buildings and slammed them into Superboy as an attack
Soul-Self destroyed the Technis ship and caused a huge explosion
An alien energy sphere stated that it would destroy worlds using Raven’s power
Raven claims her power could "destroy a universe if left uncontrolled” and even more beyond that
Was stated that her power could destroy planets and burn the Heavens to ashes
As the Unkindness, lead the Seven Deadly Sins and the Lords of Chaos to consume every plane of existence in order to bring all of creation to an end, causing destruction to the Speed Force wall and also New Genesis and Skyland in the process
Was stated to be stronger than Perpetua and Hecate and to have absorbed the realms of Dream and Nightmare by the comic’s author
Speed
Soul-Self went across an entire city and back in a few seconds
Soul-Self traveled a thousand miles from New York to Blue Valley in a minute
Soul-Self traveled all the way to the Justice League satellite from very far away
Durability
Survived Jon Kent’s solar flare that destroyed part of Titans Tower
Was assaulted by the energies of “a hundred thousand dimensions” while inside a “timeless void”
Was unhurt by Black Adam’s lightning while she was the Unkindness according to the comic’s author, which disrupted “the fundamental fabric of the omniverse”
Scaling
Trigon - Raven when empowered by souls, like Azar and Azarath from the Rings of Azar or her sisters, has overpowered Trigon. She has also consistently defeated opponents empowered by Trigon, like her dark self. Her Soul-Self when Starfire was using it was able to destroy Trigon’s soul, which even the combined souls of Azarath were incapable of. Even Arella was able to defend against his attacks, and she and Raven were capable of magically weakening Trigon, allowing Arella to block Trigon out from escaping an alternate dimension.
Casually defeated most of the Justice League in single strike including Zatanna
Defeated Superman in an alternate timeline, as well as many other powerful superheroes, including Doctor Fate
Absorbed the Heart of Darkness, which possessed all the evil contained in 100 galaxies
Planned to bring Earth and its entire dimension into his universe
Claimed he was strong enough to destroy the universe while at a tenth of his full power
His power is capable of “threatening the fabric of the universe itself”
Donna Troy - Raven has matched and overpowered Donna Troy multiple times, both normally and as Dark Raven.
Neron - Raven claimed that she was much stronger than Neron would ever be after easily blocking one of his attacks, which would also cause Neron to surrender and retreat.
Neron controls all of Hell’s reality, and Hell is symmetrically as large as Heaven
Claimed to have taken hits from the Morningstar, or at least implied he knows his exact strength enough to judge that the attack he just took was stronger
The Spectre - Trigon’s power has been compared to be around the same level as the Spectre by the Monitor. Neron has also overwhelmed Jim Corrigan’s Spectre to the point of separating him from his host. Most blatantly Raven herself has matched the Spectre.
Doctor Fate - Trigon has shown to survive attacks from Doctor Fate with ease, and eleven killed him in an alternate timeline. Raven also compared Trigon’s power to Lady Blaze, who could also keep up with Kent Nelson’s Doctor Fate. Neron also could defend himself from Hector Hall’s Doctor Fate.
Miscellaneous - Other feats Raven scales to due to direct scaling or scaling chains.
Training & Experience
Trained for the first 18 years of her life to control her emotions and become an impressive empath
Has been a member of the Teen Titans for several years
Fought for three days straight in a battle on the astral plane
Defeated Brother Blood, Mongul, Teen Titans, Neron, Trigon
Weaknesses
This can even knock her out if they’re too grievous of injuries healed.
This is also the case for dealing with powerful emotions in general, which has been taken advantage of in the past.
Other abilities are usually taxing as well like her teleportation.
All around tends to have low stamina as a result, though she has also stated that she is better at taking physical attacks than her teammates.
Too many emotions can be taxing for her, to the point that she may reach further into her dark side.
If Raven’s body and Soul-Self are separated for too long, specifically five minutes, they will both implode.
Enough power can damage her Soul-Self, even from the inside, which can hurt Raven herself greatly despite being able to regenerate the Soul-Self’s damage.
Time traveling uses so much power that performing it too often will kill her.
Are you planning on making a q&a for this battle? It's cool if you aren't, but I think this matchup could really benefit from a q&a to clear a lot of stuff up. I've seen people on reddit claiming that this episode claims that "Raven solos pretty much all of Marvel" and the distinction between Raven scaling to Trigon and Spectre, while Phoenix blatantly scales far above similar powerhouses like the Beyonder and Living Tribunal. Really curious on your opinion on these if you're able to give them, but if you're not planning on making a q&a no pressure, I'm just curious.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree.
DeleteIt depends on what the people who researched the ep want to do. The q n as aren't technically required by any kind of contract. They simply didn't feel like making one.
DeleteTheir response is "Phoenix lost to a tiger doesnt matter"
DeleteYeah, you should ask the people to do a Q and A.
DeleteOswald I agree, unless the make that Q and A.
