Character Analysis: Dr.Doom(Feat Lousy)

Background

Real Name: Victor Von Doom

Height: 6’7

Weight: 415 lbs

-Modelled after the Grim Reaper.

-Has diplomatic immunity

Born as a Romani to Cynthia and Werner Von Doom, Victor’s early life was a tumultuous one. His mother made a deal with Mephisto for magical power in order to protect her Latverian people. Which came at the price of her soul. Doom’s father wasn’t long for the world either. After a mishap with a baron, Werner feared for his life, escaping from the baron’s men and taking Victor with him into the cold wilderness. Werner would die from exposure, but Doom survived, left with nothing but a chest full of his mother’s occult relics, and a burning desire for revenge.

It was with that burning desire that he began combining his mother’s sorcery with his great knowledge of science to construct an assortment of different devices. His devices were impressive enough to get the attention of the Empire State University all the way in the United States. They offered Doom a scholarship, which he accepted.

At Empire State, Doom met his future nemesis, Reed Richards, and attempted to build a device that would let him communicate with his deceased mother. But due to a miscalculation (that may or may not have been caused by Ben Grimm) it backfired horribly and exploded, permanently scarring him, and causing enough property damage to expel him from the university.

With nowhere to go, Doom ventured to the Tibettan mountains, where he was found by several monks. These monks took him in and forged a suit of armor and mask that Doom would use to cover his face and all of his perceived imperfections. With new armor to bolster his already impressive abilities, Doom returned to his people, and successfully retook the land of Latveria, overthrowing the baron, and establishing his rule as the land’s king.

But Latveria wasn’t enough. In Doom’s eyes, the only way humanity could ever be without suffering or want was for him to rule… Everything. Thus, he did what all good mad doctors do, and tried to take over the world!

Naturally, Doom’s world domination attempts made him an enemy of the Avengers, the X-Men, the nation of Wakanda, the Silver Surfer, and most often, the Fantastic Four, led by his former college rival, Reed Richards. His successes in fighting these opponents have been… Mixed, though he has managed to steal cosmic power a remarkable number of times, and even outright won on a few occasions.

More recently, Doom’s time possessing godlike power caused him to have an epiphany. Realizing the countless lives he had taken and the undue suffering he had caused those around him, he genuinely attempted to turn over a new leaf, taking up the mantle of Iron Man (to Tony’s dismay), and briefly working with several other superheroes. Though like all things in comic books, Doom ultimately returned to the status quo, once again becoming the tyrannical ruler, and would-be conqueror, who the people of Latveria (usually) admire, and who the rest of the world despises as much as they fear.

Other Equipment

Outside of his armor, Doom also employs a variety of gadgets and weaponry.

Doom Bots: Robot replicas of Doom he infamously uses to fight and trick opponents in battle. It’s also worth noting, the mind transfer can and has worked on characters such as Reed Richards, who have minds strong enough to resist being controlled by the Skrulls. Probably because the ability isn’t any sort of mind control or manipulation, it’s just swapping the consciousnesses of two individuals.

-The Skrulls’ mind priest being unable to affect Reed’s mind.

Scaling

Who does Doctor Doom scale to?

Doom should very safely scale to all of the members of the Fantastic Four on account of pretty consistently matching and defeating them, and outright casually killing a character who had an amalgamation of all of their powers.

While not as consistent, he also has pretty consistently traded blows with The Hulk, managed to deflect Thor’s hammer, and his most powerful Doom Bots and tech are a match for the Silver Surfer. Part of this is dependent on whether or not he has drained any cosmic beings and taken their powers recently, but even with his standard armor he generally keeps up, and lasts long enough to get that cosmic power from heralds anyway. The same general logic should apply to other heralds in the Marvel universe, as he’s also kept up with Doctor Strange and the like, and has been stated to be 2nd in line for Sorcerer Supreme.

Reed Richards

-Blocked Galactus’ beams as they travelled interstellar distances

Thor

-Crossed the universe in seconds

Silver Surfer

-Explored all the exoplanets of several galaxies in a several hours

Weaknesses

Doom’s extreme arrogance tends to be his downfall, and is part of the reason he has his scars in the first place. This gives him a tendency to underestimate opponents, despite his great intellect. It might also be why he always fails and loses whatever cosmic power he has obtained right as victory is at hand. Be it through an Anti-Cosmic Flying Wing, an EMP, or him simply having all of his useful equipment destroyed. And of course, there’s his deadliest and most crippling weakness of all… Squirrels.
