Character Analysis: Omnimon

Note: I decided to make the blog a mix of Dub and Subs(while checking both for inconsistencies). If dubs were available that’s the version of a feat I linked here. There’s also some notes I took on the Wonderswan games and the general Digimon cosmology that I didn’t list in this blog either.


Background


Omnimon as a Royal Knight(official Lore background)


In the official “lore” Omnimon is a member of the Royal knights. An elite group of protectors that maintain the balance of the “Digital world” and serve the Digital world’s god/host computer Yggdrasil. Omnnimon is typically one of the higher ranking members, if not one of the top 3


Unfortunately Yggdrasil is an asshole. In almost all stories where Omnimon serves him, Yddrasil eventually decides to either destroy the human world, or perform  genocidal on his own subjects in the digital world. Sometimes both.


For example in the Digimon X-evolution and Chronicles X storylines. Yggdrasil desires to annihilate the current digital world because of its increasing complexity, and creates 3 smaller digital worlds to take its place. In order to get rid of the original Digital world he creates a system erasing program called the “X-Program” to wipe out the original populace. He then commands the royal knights to kill any Digimon immune to said program. In universe this operation was referred to as “Project Ark”.

  • DXE 25:25 It’s explained that Yggdrasil made the X-program to wipe out the current digital world.

  • DXE 1:14:50 It’s stated Yggdrasil wanted to reset the digital world due to its ever growing complexity.

  • In DCX “Project Ark/What is an X-Antibody”, It’s stated that Yddrassil was going to erase the “old digital world” due to it growing over his capacity to manage. But some Digmon gained an antibody to this program called the X-antibody. Requiring the royal knights to exterminate such individuals.


In another continuity portrayed in the anime Digimon Savers, Yggdrassil decides to destroy humanity after a group of humans came to the digital world and attacked the populace. Seeing mankind as a threat and his response as self defense.

  • DS ep 40 19:00 It’s stated Yggdrasil desires to destroy humanity in this continuity, due to distrust of the species.


Finally in the game Cyber Sleuth, Yggdrasil desires to destroy mankind because of human emotional energy unwittingly influencing/creating creatures called “eaters”. Digital beings that consume large amounts of data and are destroying the digital world.


In most of these stories/continuities Omnimon initially starts off as incredibly loyal to Yddrasil. He’s willing to carry out his orders, regardless of whether it means killing innocent Digimon, destroying the human world and causing human casualties.

  • DXE 5:27 Omnimon is loyal to Yggdrasil and is willing to destroy those with the X-antibody for his project ark plan.

  • DXE 17:44 Onimon ruthlessly executes digimon under yggdrasils orders for his project act plan.

That said Omnimon is also one of the first to normally have some kind of heel face turn. He normally comes to question Ygddrassil’s  goals and turns on him, aiding the human side.


This plays into Omnimon’s true personality. When it comes down to it Omnimon is a courageous warrior who values justice above all else. He’s also one of the more wise Digimon, having been around at least 10,000 years.


Omnimon as a creation by Tamers(Adventures and misc others origin)

Omnimon also has a second possible set of origins. In some continuities Omnimon is formed “temporarily” from a WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon partnered with a human “tamer”. Most famously Matt and Tai , the protagonists of Digimon Adventure.


The most famous of stories involving these Digimon was “our war games”, where Tai and Matt created Omnimon to fight the evil Diaboramon. A powerful virus digimon who was attempting to cause nuclear strikes using the human digital network.

The 2020 Adventure reboot also had this idea that Ominion was kind of an algorithm of multiple Digmon who banded together to banish evil in an ancient war.

Fusion/creation method

It should be noted that how Omnimon is formed(even the “lore version”) varies. But it’s normally either via normal Digivolution or via fusing two separate Digmon.


Normal Digivolution

In some of the older Digimon games(normally the Tamagotchi like “pendulums”). It was actually possible to create Omnimon via the digivolution of a singular Digimon or by granting singular digimon a special attack mode.



DNA/Jogress Evolution

Most commonly Omnimon is created via a DNA digivolution AKA “Jogress evolution”. This is essentially an evolution that occurs when two Digimon merge together. In Omnimon’s case it’s almost always the Digimon WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon who form the fusion. Even the Omnimon who follow “royal knights” background are results of said fusions.



Time limits

It should be noted that a “naturally created” Omnimon has no time limit. It can split or refuse at will. Omnimon’s that have “time limits' such as the one from Adventure Anime, largely have this weakness due to the digimon in those series evolving through unatatual means (such as using the emotional power of a human host to forcibly boost their power for short periods of time).



Forms


Digicore

A digicore is a Digimon’s core code or spirit. The “body” surrounding this code is simply a wireframe model, which can be modified or changed.


Base form

The standard form of Omnimon in most media. 


Flight

Omnimon can defy gravity and fly.


Supreme cannon

A cannon inherited from Metalgarurumon. It fires powerful energy blasts that can freeze targets under a layer of ice. According to the lore, the temperature of the cannons blasts near absolute Zero.

  • 2020 ep 67 7:46 Omimon’s Supreme cannon creates a large ball of ice and makes a massive explosion. 

  • 2020 ep 67 8:36 Omnimon creates an energy blast of ice from his cannon.



Transcendent sword

A sword infused with the fiery energy manipulation powers of Wargreymon. It can create sword beams or explosions of fiery energy.

Double shot

A Freezing/Fire combo attack with theTranscendent sword and Supreme cannon.


Omni Howling

A barrage of sound waves fired from the supreme Cannon.


Omni Blast

A move that channels energy through the transcendent sword and calls down a series of lightning strikes.


Brave Shield

A giant shield inherited from WarGreymon. Omnimon can enlarge it almost like an energy construct to block powerful attacks. The original shield used by Wargreymon is stated to be made out of chrome digizoid, the strongest metal in the digital world.

Dimensional transfer

Omnimon has the ability to communicate and travel between alternate dimensions. Often using the ability to aid others into traveling from the human world to the digital world or vice versa. His transcendent sword can even rip open rifts in space.


Grace Cross Freezer

Omnimon retains the Grace Cross Freezer rocket launchers found in the body of Metalgarurumon. They fire rockets that can freeze opponents in ice.

  • 2020 ep 67 6:32 Omnimon’s shoulder fires ice missiles.

  • 2020 ep 67 6:43 Omnimon’s hand fires a barrage of ice missiles.


Attack +

ATk charge+ boosts Omnimon’s attack power


All recover

An ability that allows Omnimon to restore things that have been erased or deleted.

  • 2020 ep 67 12:44 Omnimon  uses some golden power to restore the universe around him.


Super Brave mode

A slightly more powerful variant/mode of Omnimon.


Survivability

As a digital being Omnimon’s main body is simply a digital wireframe, lacking normal internal organs. Because of that he can be impaled, lose body parts or be sliced apart without the damage being fatal. 


Sensory powers

Omnimon has some extra sensory abilities. Including the ability to sense evil and large wells of power, such as those from other Royal knights.


Misc


sub skills

Omnimon can equip “attack skills” in the game Digimon re-arise .This includes various elemental attacks and status effects like Sleep, paralysis, and poison. Digimon next order also has similar sub skills.


Omnimon X


A form Omnimon gained after Omnimon was given the X-Antibody by fellow royal knight Alphamon. The X-antibody is an antibody that digimon gained after acquiring an immunity to Yggdrasils Digital world wiping X-program. This program can be seen as a protection against existence erasure on a temporal, spiritual and material level. It also gives a general boost in power and new abilities. 

  • DXE 6:09 It’s stated 98% of all digimon thave been wiped out by Yddrasil’s X-program 

  • DXE 1:12:23 Alphamon gives Omnimon the X-antibody, allowing him to become Omnimon X 

  • It’s stated that the X-Program was created to erase all Digimon in the digital world, but certain Digimon who gain the X-antibody have immunity. https://youtu.be/7R38WmoY20s?t=35


Omega in force

An ability mastered by Omnimon after gaining the X-Antibody. It allows him to predict the flow of battle and reaction also as if he has precognition. Essentially acting as a form of “ultra Instinct” from Dragon Ball.



All Delete

An offensive ability that can erase things from existence, including the entire Digital world. Omnimon uses it to delete and reset the digital world in the Chronicles X continuity.



Omnimon Merciful mode

Omnimon’s most powerful form. It was first introduced in the movie Series Digimon Tri, where it was created via Tai/Matt’s Omnimon fusing with several other digimon. In the official lore it’s implied that this is a form Omnimon can take on by themself by choice, which has been confirmed in several games where it’s simply Omnimon’s “digivolution”.


Fearsome Blade

A more powerful blade shaped like a giant katana laser blade.  It can extend outward for extra range.


Graceful Ganon

A more powerful version of the Supreme canon. According to the lore it fires ice attacks at absolute zero temperatures.



Misc moves

Inheritable skills(cyber sleuth)

 In  Cyber Sleuth  there’s numerous inheritable skills and attacks that versions of Omnimon can potentially learn.  For example

  • Texture Blow: Turns an opponent into a digital dot 

  • Gu-Rei Tou: With the Grey Sword transformed into the katana on the left arm, Omnimon performs a multi-hit and long-range attack.

  • Holy Flame: Strikes the opponent with the light energy of all justice, instantaneously erasing their form.

  • Apocalypse: Calls down energy bolts from the heavens to strike opponents.

  • Hermit Fog: Sprays forth a cold mist that corrodes anything it touches.

  • Starlight Explosion: Causes it to rain golden grains that are said to purify all of the wickedness of those who suffer this technique or causes an explosion of light.

  • Life Force: Generates a wonderful energy that absorbs the enemy's life force.

  • Shadow Wing: Unleashes a vacuum blade at super-speed, chopping up the opponent.

  • Arctic Blizzard: Momentarily brings the surrounding atmosphere to absolute zero, then smashes the frozen enemy.

  • Forbidden Temptation: Beautifully destroys the opponent's data in a shower of innumerable rose petals.

  • Thorn Whipping (Thorn Whip): Tames a Digimon, no matter how frenzied, with a thorned whip charged with electricity.

  • Final Aura: Greatly heals all allies.

  • Rosy Cradle: Summons a storm of sleep-inducing rose petals.

  • Fascination: Enthralls an opponent and steals its life-force.

  • Giga Blaster: A lightwave explosion that is an enhanced version of "Electro Shocker" which will annihilate anyone it hits.

  • Heaven's Gate: Opens a gate to a sealed dimension from which there is no escape, consigning his foe to oblivion.

  • Strike of the Seven Stars: Creates seven superheated balls of light at the opponent to annihilate them.

  • Testament: Uses the deepest mystery to convert its mortal life into a new Big Bang.

Mega and Below Digimon

Omnimon is officially classified as a “above Mega” level Digmon. So he should likely be superior to any Digimon at or below that rank.

  • AM1 47:00 Wargremon and MetalGarurumon avoid laser fire from thousands of Diaboromon.

King Yggdrasil

Omnimon has both fought Yggdrasil directly, as well as when they were possessed by “mother eater” in the Digmon cyber sleuth series. As the creator and controller of the digital world, Yddrassil commands immense power.


Negamon/Addamon

Negamon/Addamon is the ultimate evil in the 2020 reboot of Digimon adventure. Not only are they a threat to the digital world, but they’re explicitly called stronger than Zeed Millenimon. In another game on the wonderswan Zeedmillenmon was stated to be a threat to multiple universes at once.

  • 2020 ep 64 14:05 It’s stated Negamon’s power surpasses Millenimon in power

  • 2020 ep 65 3:07 Data is being absorbed/obliterated across the digital world by Negamon. It’s stated everything will eventually vanish.

  • 2020 ep 65 13:50 It’s stated that Negamon will consume all of the digital world

  • 2020 ep 65 21:29 Negamon’s power starts to breach and consume the human world


It should be noted that the Omnimon that fought Addamon was Omnimon Alter-S. A form of Omnimon created with altered versions of WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon(think Regional variants). However this form of Omnimon is stated to be on par in power with the normal version


Mother Eater

Mother Eater is the “main unit” of the eaters that were threatening the digital world in the game Digimon Cyber Sleuth. Not only did it have Yggdrasils powers due to merging with and overtaking him, but it’s eventually revealed Mother Eater is a higher dimensional being from across countless parallel universes.


Crests/Human emotion

In many series, such as the adventure series, Omnimon is formed via the emotional energy of humans. It stands to reason that a “natural” Omnimon would be able to reach similar levels of power. 

  • DA ep 54 4:13 The human protagonists then use the power of emotions and crests to seal Apocamon’s attack, which would destroy the real and digital worlds

    • DA ep 54 3:51 The Digimon Apocamon says he’ll take down the digital world and the real world.

  • DF ep 78 21:15 and DF ep 79 10:50,18:00  In Digimon Savers 6 protagonists of various digimon series(Adventures, Tamers, Etc) band together to provide energy for a weapon called the brave snatcher. This weapon is used to fight the digimon Quartzmon, a being whose power affected multiple timelines.

  • Tri ep 6 30:55 Omnimon fought Ordinamon, who was causing distortions that were affecting the real world, and could potentially cause it to transform back into the quantum sea.

  • DCX Chapter 25-26 It’s stated the digimon Ogudomon’s will collapse both the new and old digital worlds. It’s ultimately defeated by combining the power of the human Jesmon and the royal knights(including Omnimon).
