Character Analysis: Jake Long

Background

During her teen years, a woman named Susan fell in love with a man named Jonathan Long. The two would eventually get married as well as have two kids. However, Susan has a secret that she's been keeping from Jonathan for many, many years; her bloodline is full of dragons, protectors of magic and all who use it. While Susan herself did not receive dragon powers from her bloodline, her son, Jake Long, did, becoming the American Dragon. As the American Dragon, it's Jake's duty to protect the city of New York from the forces of evil.

Abilities

Dragon Physiology
After shouting "Dragon Up!" Jake transforms into the American Dragon. As the American Dragon, Jake gains dragon wings for flight, enhanced senses, dragon claws, a dragon tail, a long tongue, fire breath, and certain chi abilities. Due to the dragon's magical nature, Jake can interact with other magical beings normal people cannot, like intangible ghosts and shadows.

Fire Breath
The ability to breathe fire. Speaks for itself. Jake can shoot fire from pretty much any hole in his body, like his mouth, nostrils, and...well he can also fart fire too. I'll leave it at that.

Eye of the Dragon
A power that grants Jake the ability to see in complete darkness and over long distances. Jake's senses are heightened to the point where he can see in the dark.

Ear of the Dragon
A power that greatly enhances Jake's hearing.

Cloning
Jake can manifest chi from his body to create doppelgangers. While creating doppelgangers does drain him of chi energy, Jake can reabsorb his clones on short notice to restore his chi.
