Character Analysis:Captain Falcon

Helpful links

The F zero franchise has two timelines. The first is F-zero>F-Zero X>F-Zero GX/AX> F-Zero maximum velocity. The second is the anime timeline which goes beginning eps of Legends > GP Legends Game> End episodes of anime/GT Climax

Background

A renowned bounty hunter typically depicted as around 36-37 years old. He’s rumored to have originally been a police officer on the Internova Police Force. He races as a pastime and acts as a bounty hunter in his spare time. Because his activities as a bounty hunter have attracted various enemies to him, he's preferred to stay secluded to a chain of islands of the coast of a place called Port Town. His name in the games is Douglas Jay Falcon. His GP Legends counterpart goes by the alias Bart Lemming, with his real name being Andy Summers. In the anime, the title of Captain Falcon is stated to be passed down to worthy successors. The character Ryu takes up the mantle of Falcon from the Andy summers version after said version passes away.

Arsenal

Laser gun
A laser pistol held on Falcon’s hip. He’s shown carrying it in Smash Bros and in most of his appearances in other media. He has never actually fired it outside the short comic released with the original game.

Dynamite
In one ep of the anime, Falcon was shown carrying dynamite with him, which he could use to blow villains or bases.

Champion belts
A set of two belts Falcon gained in F-Zero GX. Captain Falcon gained the Overworld Champion Belt after winning the F-Zero tournament in said, and he gained the Underworld Champion Belt after defeating the Underworld F-Zero champion Deathborn. According to Deathborn, the belts contain the universal powers of light and darkness respectively, and when combined can allow a user to seize power comparable to that needed to destroy a galaxy. Despite Deathborn's claims, the final secret chapter in the game put the belts granting this level of power to somebody into question. In the said chapter, it's stated that belts actually houses otherworldly beings known as the “creators” who claim to have created Falcon’s world. They disappear without a trace after being beaten in a race.

Abilities

Falcon Punch
A powerful flaming punch considered by many to be Captain Falcon’s signature move. It takes a few seconds to charge and can be reversed in the opposite direction at the last second for added power. In Smash 4 it also has two variants, the Falcon Dash punch, and the Mighty Falcon Punch. The Falcon Dash Punch is weaker but propels Falcon forward in the air. The Mighty Falcon Punch is an even more powerful variant of the normal Falcon Punch but has a longer windup.

Falcon Dive
A move where Falcon will rise into the air, grab an opponent and then send them flying with a massive explosion. In Smash 4 it has two variants the Falcon Strike and the Explosive Falcon Dive. The former doesn’t grab the opponent but rises Falcon into the air higher with a weaker uppercut punch. The latter creates a more powerful explosion when the opponent is grabbed but doesn’t raise Falcon as high into the air.

Falcon Kick
A powerful sliding kick attack engulfed in a fiery aura. It sends Cap several feet forward horizontally and can be used to crash onto opponents from above. It has two variants in Smash 4, the Falcon Kick Fury and the Lighting Falcon Kick. The former is a series of rapid weaker Falcon Kicks in a row, while the latter is weaker Falcon Kick with an electric elementality that stuns opponents.

Raptor Boost
A dashing fire based uppercut punch. When used on an opponent in the air it can also be used to spike them downwards towards the ground. It has two customizations: Heavy Raptor Boost and Wind Up Raptor Boost. The former is a slower and shorter range raptor boost with more power, and the latter is is a dodge followed up by a weaker version of the raptor boost.

Knee Smash (Knee of Justice)
A powerful explosive knew strike attack. If it hits correctly it will normally have an electric energy burst that will stun opponents momentarily.

Gentleman
Another weaker knee attack.

Wall Jump
A wall jumping ability
Misc
Several of Falcon smash attacks also have fiery attributes in some of his appearances.

Vehicles

Blue Falcon
Engine BF-2001 x 4
Max Horsepower: 3,200 ps
Max Speed: 457 km/h
Total Weight 1,260 kg
Body B
Boost C
Grip B

One of the more famous racing machines used in the F-Zero universe. The Blue Falcon is Captain Falcon’s personal racing machine, and like other F-Zero racing machines it uses anti-gravity components known as G-diffusers to hover and fly through the air (though this was specified to originally have been magnetic technology in the manual of the original game). In X/GX it’s acceleration and top speed can be modified somewhat before races. It’s also shown to have a radar system and a rearview camera in GX. Despite its original specs saying it has a max speed of 457 km/h, the machine can easily reach speeds of 760-1000 km in later games and F-Zero machines as a whole are specifically stated to be able to break the sound barrier in GX’s manual. Speeds can also potentially be pushed even higher with specific fan techniques or feats displayed by the machines in other media. All machines in F-Zero requires energy to operate, though this “energy” doesn’t seem to be fuel exactly, as the machines can run indefinitely in game. Energy levels decrease as they take damage, or using certain abilities like boost. If they run out of energy then they can be more easily destroyed even by weak attacks. Falcon can eject from the Blue Falcon (like a plane pilot more or less) if he desires.

Boost
A technique that sacrifices vehicle energy to perform a quick boost in speed. The visual effects look slightly different in each media its portrayed in. It’s possible to boost again while the first is still active in GT climax.

Spin Attack
An offensive measure where the Blue Falcon will spin around in place to damage nearby opponents and deflect blows.

Side Attack
Essentially a tackling attack used on opponents that crashed the falcon into them.

Boost Fire
An anime invented ability that eventually made its way into the last F-Zero game(Gt Climax). By deactivating safety mechanisms meant to give the car tighter control and by performing a boost and spin attack at the same time, the blue falcon can turn itself into a sort of energy Beyblade to attack opponents, deflect blows or even perform a sort of pseudo flight. Boost fire also disperses energy that can power up, counteract or overload the energy in other machinery. The high power needed to perform the move typically requires the machine in question be using a “Reactor Might”. Each F-Zero machine can only use the ability about once per race on average(once per reactor they have installed). Though this limit is once per lap in GT Climax.

Misc Movement Options
The Blue falcon has various driving options you would often be sure to find in most driving games. This includes, of course, various drifting options, both with and without the use of boosting. The ability to perform a powerful speed burst at the start of a race, as well as the ability to modify jump length when launched off a ramp.

Reactor Might
Reactor Mights are powerful sources of energy that were formed when the universe began. There are 6 in all, with each being able to power various types of machinery. Falcon uses a reactor might as one of the core components of the Blue Falcon’s engine. Outside of powering racing machines reactor nights have also been used to augment characters to stronger forms, power bioengineering tech, create matter out of nothing, transmute machines into stronger forms, and absorb matter. Though it should be noted Falcon himself has never shown to apply his reactor might in a the same ways as some other characters or devices.

Reactor mights are quite volatile and if mishandled their power will often run out of control, typically leading to massive explosions. They also can have variances in the amount of power they can output. For example Reactor, Mights grow stronger and “develop” the more they are used and bond with a specific user. Aditionally multiple Reactor Mights are brought to the same location their overall power raises exponentially, potentially allowing for most destructive feats if utilized correctly.

Super Falcon

Total weight: 790 kg
Body: A
Boost: B
Grip: A
A more powerful and better operating version of the Blue Falcon available only in the japan only 64dd expansion pack. It’s grip, boost power and body are a tier higher than the original in game, and it only weighs around 790kg. Other than that it should share all the abilities of the original.

Falcon Flyer
A flying spacecraft used by Falcon to get to places over longer distances. It can carry the Blue Falcon, and is piloted by a robot in the short comic that was in the first game’s manual. In the anime that version of the craft has some kind of tractor beam.

Scaling

Falcon should scale to Ryu, Goro and to a certain extent Black shadow. The Andy Summers captain Falcon acted as a mentor to Ryu and designed his machine, the Dyna Bird. Ryu also had trouble holding his own against Falcon’s clone Blood Falcon in a fist fight, while the normal Falcon could. It’s shown both in races and implied/stated in the manuals that Captain Falcon is supposed to be a more effective bounty hunter than Goro. Finally, Falcon is the only person to directly hurt black shadow in a physical confrontation, and the blue falcon has been stated to be comparable to Black shadow’s black bull machine.

Misc
  • Zoda even in his normal form survived this dynamite blowing up in his face along with a large machine in ep 20. Even in his stronger form, Zoda couldn't hurt black shadow, while Falcon could https://youtu.be/2W7KMotFiMs?t=1076

Experience

  • Has won the F-Zero race tourney multiple times
  • Defeated Deathborn
  • Defeated the creators of his world in a race
  • Aided in training Ryu and defeating the Million terrorist organization run by Black Shadow
  • Is an accomplished bounty hunter
