Scoobert Doo (Aka, Scooby-Doo/Scoob/Scooby-Dooby Doo) is the Great Dane mascot of Mystery Inc. Born to Momsy and Dada-Doo from Dooville USA, Scooby was picked up early on by the Rogers family, and is owned by and the best friend of Norville ‘Shaggy’ Rogers. The backstory of how these two met has changed much throughout the entire series. In some instances, Scooby was taken in by the Rogers family as a pup (13:00), seemingly whenever Shaggy was a baby as well (5:30). In other cases Shaggy got Scooby while he was a young adult, as there’s sometimes a 4th wall break where Mystery Inc. just knows they’re a cartoon series and are cartoons themselves.

Regardless, whenever Scooby and Shaggy met, they have been inseparable ever since. Scooby has solved countless mysteries with not just Shaggy but Daphne (Danger prone Daredevil), Velma (The brains), and Fred (Trap specialist and himbo), each with their own distinct personalities and skills. At its core the series really is just about a mystery solving gang of teenagers and their talking dog. If there’s a mystery to solve this ragtag team of young adults will be there to solve it.

Experience/Skill

Scooby’s stats and info (Link). Scooby has been solving mysteries since he was in diapers. (5:30). Along with Shaggy, Fred, Daphne and Velma, they ran the Scooby-Doo Detective agency as kids where they solved mysteries together. (2:58) Scooby is a professional tracker, as dogs are typically portrayed in cartoons, largely in part due to his super sniffer he calls a nose. With Shaggy and his nephew Scrappy he ran a fearless detective agency without Velma, Fred or Daphne. He’s recognized by Batman to be a professional detective, even going so far as to make Scooby a member of the Mystery Analysts of Gotham (5:10).

Duping

Sometimes called the “Power of Positive Assertion” Scooby is capable of “duping” monsters and villains long enough to either subdue them or run away from them. Scooby is described as a master of disguise, able to put entire costumes together on a whim and skits so believable that whatever nonsensical situation he puts a villain or monster in completely believes the situation.

The length of how extravagant these disguises are and how long they dupe the villain usually range. Some villains don’t get tricked, while others will usually get tricked so hard it lasts either a few hours (10:40) to a day before they realize they've been duped. (9:50) It’s also important to note that Scooby also tricks villains with varying degrees of smarts.

Types of people Scooby dupes:

Scooby Snacks - Scooby has been known to have Scooby Snacks on his person at any time. It’s a staple to the series that anytime Scooby is too scared to do something, a scooby snack or two will give Scooby the courage to face whatever comes his way (21:25). They also give him a Popeye level boost (19:00) where he gets stronger after eating them. Scooby snacks have enabled Scooby the ability to resist hypnosis, and are known to be irresistible to other dogs (Page 6). If another person eats a scooby snack, this allows the scooby the ability to enter their mind for some reason, such as he did with Velma. This also allowed him to look at Velma’s memories.

Mystery Machine - The staple vehicle of the Scooby gang. Scooby unironically has his driver’s license (0:18), and has driven the mystery machine on several occasions, so it's fair to grant him in this case. The mystery machine has a slew of transformations:

Chest of Demons - From the 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo, Scooby released 13 of the most vile demons that have ever existed. Upon accidentally opening it, Scooby was tasked with putting the demons back into the chest. The chest has the ability to capture any type of ghost, may they be demonic or spiritual in nature.

The origin story of the chest is not known, but the earliest use of it was by Vincent Van Ghoul’s ancestor, Asamad Van Ghoul, who was the most powerful wizard and sorcerer the world had ever known. The chest stripped Asamad of his mortality (1:08:10), and kept him stuck inside it, as it is in inescapable prison for any ghost trapped inside. These demons, despite their abilities, are unable to phase through or teleport out of the chest of demons, offering a form of sealing to any spiritual or demonic being that gets trapped inside.

The 13 Ghosts in the chest are:

  • Maldor the Malevolent - a demon proficient in dark magic and has the ability to transmute beings with his magics as well as teleport (18:40)

It can also reflect transmutation magic (18:20).

Super Scooby Snacks - Shaggy’s uncle, Albert Shaggleford, is a brilliant scientist that developed a formula that utilizes nanite technology that grants living organisms super powers. He put the formula for these nanites inside Scooby Snacks, which can only be used by animals. Shaggy and Scooby have made them on several occasions, and they offer a wide array of abilities and superpowers upon consumption. The spirit of the black samurai was set free (1:00:00) (1:02:50). The Sword of Fate was able to destroy the evil spirit of the Black Samurai. Powers/Abilities

Squash and Stretch Body - Seeing as Scooby is a cartoon character, his body has shown the ability to stretch, squish, twist and mold itself in any way he wants. This extends from stretching his own limbs, his tongue or his entire body to reach for objects out his reach or to slip in between cracks or other small spaces (6:15) (19:40) with his body. He’s sucked his head into his body like a turtle (9:50). Other parts of his body seemingly have a mind of their own, such as his stomach (15:10) or nose which has acted separate from him. He also has the ability to bring out claws from his paws that can be various keys and unlock any door. (13:15) Hides in shaggy’s skull (16:03).

  • Elasticity - He has stretched his body in all sorts of ways from his face (3:42), to his tongue and limbs (3:08).  Squished into a pizza form (8:14)

  • Shapeshifting - Scooby has shown the ability to shapeshift his body into anything he wants to imitate, this extends to living or inanimate objects like a satellite (15:08) or paper (11:39 - 11:51) and even a robot (9:24). This extends from a cat (12:15), a chicken (8:07), a dinosaur (17:00) and several other monsters of the week (3:55) (4:21)

  • Duplication - Scooby can duplicate himself (18:38), and has shown to be able to split himself into 4 other scooby’s (0:10) (This is without his duplication Scooby Snack which allows him to split into more) He can also split his head and other appendages into multiple of itself. (7:53) Scooby also has copies of himself inside his body that have exited his body before (2:38), and even acts as a russian nesting doll. (7:16

Non-physical & Non-Corporeal Interaction - Scooby is able to interact with the ghosts by being able to physically touch them (10:28) (Link). This also extends to his own shadow (5:45 - 5:53). He’s also capable of interacting with and touching fog as if it were a physical construct (an oddly consistent gag in the series) (5:18 & 20:40).

Teleportation - Scooby can teleport in varying degrees, either between doors of a locker, cabinet, or simply by poofing himself away (11:15) or exiting someone's gaze.

Soul Manipulation - Scooby has control of his own soul outside of his body, with his body still being able to still function without it. (11:22 - 11:36

Gravity Manipulation - In true cartoon fashion, Scooby has a tendency to ignore the laws of physics. This includes floating in place (10:18 - 10:30) (9:00), walking along walls and ceilings (7:48) (16:31), running through the air (18:00) and even falling through space at normal falling speeds despite space being the floaty endless vacuum that it is. He even opens a tank hole with Shaggy and water doesn’t fall out (16:56).

Size Manipulation - Scooby can shrink or grow on a whim (14:26).

Time Manipulation - Scooby has the ability to jolt himself forward or backward through time depending on how fast he moves (1:55 & 7:00). This ranges from a few decades to a few million years. (0:30 & 6:55) He has no problem getting himself back to the present the same way. (This is without his Super Speed Scooby snack, which also allows him to go backwards and forwards through time) He can also rewind time to correct his actions if he’s landed into bad situations. (26:33) (8:40) (8:50 - 9:30)

Mind Manipulation - If another character eats a Scooby Snack, Scooby can hop into their mind and look into their memories. (58:15 - 59:08)

Technology Manipulation - Scooby is able to hop into computer and game screens as data and come back out just fine (10:53)

Flight/Levitation- Scooby has the ability to levitate, fly (11:39) and stay in the air for extended periods of time. This is either by flapping his limbs to keep himself flying (3:20) or just by simply flying in the air. (32:17)

Hammer Space - Scooby is capable of pulling just about anything he wants out of his back pockets (figuratively speaking). He’s pulled out doors (9:18), walls (18:35), and various costumes from seemingly thin air on a moment's notice. Other Examples - (Link)

Creation - Scooby is capable of drawing things into existence either through paint or pencil. He painted a door into existence (15:15), a cave exit to escape monsters chasing after him (1:10:24), the mystery machine (Link) and has also drawn monsters into existence with his pen (Link). He also drew his comics editor into existence (Link). He also drew cracks on a vase which caused it to break as though the cracks were real (4:28).

Painting Hopping - Scooby has the ability to jump in and out of artwork (3:40) (17:06) (16:45) (4:28). This has also been used to help teleport or fast travel to real world locations, like Paris. (7:20) Other Examples - (Link)

Reconstruction - Scooby has the ability to put things back together as good as new, such as when he threw a dinosaur skeleton that has broken into pieces back together (13:40), or ran past a tree so fast the leaves of it reattached to the trees (4:50). He should also scale to Velma’s toonforce where she put together a shattered scooby who had just been shattered into glass. (10:13)

Plot Manipulation / 4th Wall awareness - Scooby has stopped the plot of his own show before (8:45), even going so far as to ending his own show when he wants to (6:59).

Water Manipulation - Stops a wave from moving by telling it to stop so he can get an Umbrella to prepare for the wave (12:55)

Resistances

Fire Resistance - Scooby has been lit on fire and shrugged it off before (12:10)

Ice Resistance - Scooby can freeze (17:10)  and unfreeze himself at will (3:15

Mind Control Resistance - Scooby has resisted mind control by default. He resisted mind control from a hypnotist who mind controlled an entire ship of people (29:03), resisted mind controlling music (11:10), even mind control from the likes of DCAU Gorilla Grodd (Link). (Scooby snacks have also granted him immunity from mind control before) His mind is so simple that it is completely immune to a mind control ray. (3:12:18)

Possession/Corruption Resistance - Similarly to his resistance to mind control, Scooby has resisted possession and corruption from evil spirits and artifacts such as the Headless Horseman and the Goblin Scepter. (Page 17) (Page 18)

Transmutation Resistance - Scooby has transmuted into other objects like a newspaper before (9:29), as well as other species like a seal (16:10 - 17:39), only to be back to normal a scene later. This can also be attributed to his ability to transform his body. Since he has also transformed himself into inanimate objects before, he could easily transform himself back to normal. (This is without other tools in his arsenal like the Wonder Wand which allows him to resist and utilize transmutation)  Other examples - (17:00) (10:10)

  • Fusion Resistance - All the gangs heads combine into a giant book head and they all separated (12:03

Scaling

  • Scooby should reasonably scale to the rest of the mystery gang. This is especially true with Shaggy, who usually does a majority of his stuff with Scooby as well.

  • He should scale to the wonder wand and the 13 demons as he’s consistently fought them throughout the 13 ghosts of Scooby-Doo.

  • The wand is capable of destroying the planet when in the wrong hands. (15:15

Weaknesses

It’s very well known that Scooby gets spooked at just about everything. From his own shadow to all the ghosts and ghouls (fake or otherwise) he runs into in his series. When it calls for action Scooby will definitely face whatever he fears with courage head on, but it’s definitely a recurring problem he has. While he has a resistance to being transmuted, he will still be transformed into something before returning back to normal a scene later. And for as good as Scooby’s duping skills are, there have been a few times the villain was quick to ignore or not believe whatever skit he’s put on.
