Character Analysis: King K.Rool

Background

The rival to the Kong family in the donkey kong series. He often tries to steal DK's banana hoard or wipe up his family. He’s implied to be a bit demented, and unstable, as he switches between outward personas game to game. He’s also fairly cruel and abusive towards his underlings.

Weapons

Crownerange

A spiked Kings crown worn on K.Rool’s head. It can be thrown as projectile and swings back to his position in the air like a boomerang.

Blunderbuss
A blunderbuss weapon. It can be used to propel K.Rool along the ground at high speeds and also shoot cannonballs at various speeds of trajectories(straight forward, bouncing on the floor, in loops). It also has a few alternate ammunition types including spiked cannonballs and barrels. As well as ice gas that flash freezes opponents, red gas that slows movement and purple gas that messes with their sense of direction. The weapon can also pull in objects or people with a powerful suction and then shoot them back out.

Scaling

DK
Dk is Rool’s main rival. While Rool hasn’t shown up in a game recently, this fact has been reaffirmed in data logs and was still implied by Nintendo during Rool’s smash reveal.

Other Mario characters
Whether K.Rool scales to other Mario characters is up for debate given K.Rool's lack of appearances over Mario's somewhat janky timeline. That being said he has interacted with most of the more important characters in the series in some media, I don't think has a lot of power progression between installments. For example, in the prequel new island games, Yoshi  could fight an adult version of Bowser from the future https://youtu.be/_RG-tPmCDp8?t=1779  Mario and Luigi’s infant selves where also able to keep up with their adult counterparts for the most part in the Partners in Time RPG. Neither of these situations would be possible if there were major power discrepancies that occurred over time.

I'd also add that Baby DK was also implied to be among the more physically powerful of the Mario children in Yoshi’s Island DS. Also that the Bowser's minions side games in recent EPGS have shown Bowser's fodder units can be legitimate threats, which I'm sure most people in the Mario universe as a whole would scale too.

Possible evidence for scaling for misc characters

Various feats of importance

  • Has taken Dk’s Banana hord multiple times
  • Has kidnapped DK and various members of his family multiple times
